Star Wars Birthday Party Crafts
Keep the young jedi padawan and/or sith apprentices busy with Star Wars related crafts during the birthday party.
This page has ideas for Star Wars related crafts that the party guests can make and keep. Crafts are a great way to start any party and the finished craft can even be used during the party as part of a game, costume accessory, or loot bag item.
1. Balloon Light Sabre
One of the things that kids, especially boys, associated most closely with star wars is the light sabre. Here are the supplies and instructions for a very basic ballon light sabre
Supplies For A Basic Balloon Light Sabre
- Long skinny balloons - the type used more making balloon animals
- Paper tubes (toilet paper rolls, paper towel rolls, homemade heavy paper rolls). Note that the balloon must fit into the tubes
- Tape - Duct tape works really well
- Stick on jewels
- Paint and/or markers
How to Make a Basic Star Wars Light Sabre
- Have the kids paint or color the paper tubes. These tubes will be the handles of the light sabre.
- The kids can then add stick-on jewels to decorate the light sabre handles, if they would like to.
- While the kids are decorating the handles, go around and ask each child what color they would like for their light sabre balloon and if they want a single light sabre or double long light sabre.
- For a double long light sabre, blow the balloon up the full length and tie off the end. For a single light sabre, blow up the balloon the full length and then pinch it in the middle and let the end deflate, while keeping the far end fully inflated, then tie it off in the middle.
- Now put the handles on. The handle goes in the middle of a double long, and at the end of a single light sabre.
- If the handles aren't snug then tape them on. Duct tape (a thin strip) gives the connected end a nice metalic sort of look and it lolds well.
These Star Wars light sabres are fun to make, inexpensive, and are a great party favor. The kids will want to spend the next part of the party playing with their light sabres.
2. Lighted Ballon Light Sabre
The basic light sabres are fun to make and play with, but lighted ones are even better! What's a light sabre without light?
Supplies Needed For A Lighted Light Sabre
- Small cheap flashlight (dollar store variety is fine)
- Same as the basic light sabre for the rest of the supplies
Before the party make sure that the flashlight fits into the paper tube without too much of a gap. If the flashlight is either too big or too small for the tubes, then you can make your own paper tubes that are a little narrower at one end and wider at the other.
How to Make a Lighted Star Wars Light Sabre
Do everything as described in the basic light sabre craft, except for making double long light sabres. This craft is only suited to the single light sabres. Once the single length light sabres are created, tape the flashlights to the open ends of the handles. The handles are now longer, because they includes the flashlight handle and the handle portion that the party guests decorated.3. Star Wars Loot Bags
The Star Wars party guests need something to take their intergalactic loot home in. Making their own star wars loot bags is fun and probably less expensive than buying Star Wars loot bags.
Supplies Needed for the Loot Bag Craft
- Plain paper lunch bags and plain solid color loot bags
- Lots of star wars pictures
- Scissors
- Glue
- Pencil Crayons
Making the Star Wars Loot Bag
- Go online and print out lots of star wars pictures. Just do an image search on star wars and you'll find lots of them. Make sure that they are not too large for the loot bags, or cut them down to size if they are. Have a mix of different pictures, like logos, characters, cool scenes, etc.
- You can either cut the pictures out or have the kids cut them out during the party.
- Spread out the Star Wars pictures (or pages of pictures) in the middle of the table.
- Set up work spots around the table with paper bags, scissors, glue.
- Have the kids decorate the loot bags however they what with the materials you've supplied.
- Make sure they put their names on the bags.
